The seventh oldest golf club in the world, Crail Golfing Society was founded in 1786. The Balcomie Links, designed by Old Tom Morris and opened in 1895, is a stunning clifftop course with spectacular coastal views. This is traditional Scottish links golf at its most charming and historic.
The Crail Golfing Society was formed by eleven gentlemen at the Crail Golf Inn on 23 February 1786, making it one of the oldest golf clubs in the world. Old Tom Morris laid out the first nine holes at Balcomie in 1894 (opened 1895) and returned to extend it to 18 holes in 1900 — much of the course as it plays today derives from that work. Its unusual mix of three par 5s, six par 3s and nine par 4s produces a tough par of 69, and the former Crail Lifeboat House (1884–1923) still stands behind the 14th green.
